A visit to Byers Choice is our new family holiday tradition! Byers is a family business that custom handcrafts holiday figurines, notably their Carolers. Byers is less than an hour’s drive from Philly with ample free onsite parking and free access to their exhibit rooms. No reservation is necessary but check their website: visiting hours vary and they host special event days.
At the entrance, there’s a short optional video about the company’s history and commitment to giving back to the community. Visitors stroll past an avenue of old-time shop windows to enter the display diorama rooms. On some days, you can watch the artisan staff creating the Carolers from an observation platform.
There are multiple rooms ( each filled with hundreds of Carolers) celebrating a Dickens’ Christmas, early America, Santa’s workshop and a New England winter. There are Carolers for other holidays on display, and they add new Caroler designs each year.
Next, there are detailed dioramas describing holiday traditions around the world. This leads into a large room featuring nativity sets from around the world which were donated to or collected by the Byers family.
The visit ends in the Byers gift shop with staff standing by.There are public restrooms. It would be appreciated if they added a food and beverage area with seating. A visit takes about 2 hours to see everything.
