We were delighted to discover the Wharton Esherick Museum in Malvern. This historic hidden gem offers small group tours and is just a short drive from Philadelphia. We look forward to returning with friends to experience the artist Esherick’s ingenuity and artistry in more depth.

Our guide was excellent! He drew upon his expertise as a master wood craftsman to provide insight into Esherick’s creative talents as a wood sculptor, architect, painter, inventor, naturalist and sustainability advocate.

It was a rare treat to experience an artist’s works in the environment where the artist both lived and created for over 4 decades. Esherick made ingenious use of every inch of living space especially with his bedroom loft and boat sink kitchen.

The site curators encouraged our questions and did an exemplary job in answering them. Advance reservations are required to explore this intimate space.
